Q Can I play golf twice in the same day?
Yes, providing a tee time has been booked in advance.
Q Do I need a handicap certificate?
The general rule is that a handicap certificate is required to be shown before playing. We advise that you travel with it to avoid disappointment.
Q Do you provide a club hire facility?
Golf hire can be arranged for you and is subject to a charge.
Q How can I pay for my holiday?
Either by online payment to a Paypal account, or by bank transfer. Details will be shown on the invoice.
Q What is the best way to get to Bordeaux or Biarritz?
It’s never been easier to come to visit us! You can come by plane, train or car/ferry. We have more information here on your various options, but if you need extra help, just get in touch.
Q Why should I come to Bordeaux for a golf holiday?
We may be biased, but we think Bordeaux and the south-west France is a well-kept secret when it comes to golf. We’ve played throughout the UK and Ireland, as well as all around Europe and the US. Bordeaux has a magical combination of beautiful, accessible courses, great weather, and affordable prices. Oh, and did we mention the food and wine?
When you join a Greens & Grapes holiday, we can also include Biarritz and other courses in south-west France on your itinerary. This opens up a whole range of links courses, and also gives you the chance to combine golf with a beach or family holiday.
Q Is it a problem if I don’t speak French?
No, it doesn’t matter at all. Lucius and Sylvie both speak French and English. That means we can provide you with the best local knowledge and contacts, coupled with full support in English. Sylvie also speaks fluent Spanish if you fancy a holiday extension in northern Spain.
Q Can I bring my family?
Absolutely! Bordeaux is one of the most family friendly cities in the world. It’s also been voted one of the top stress-free cities in the world by CNN, which says a lot about how relaxing it can be for families and senior travellers who come and visit. We welcome people of all ages. The courses we use are open to junior golfers and many also offer lessons and other activities for kids. If the rest of your family is not interested in golf, we can design an itinerary to keep them entertained while you’re on the course.
Q What is there to do when I’m not playing golf?
Where to start? Wine-tasting in the Bordeaux region, foodie breaks, surfing, and family activities can all be factored into your itinerary. Just let us know what you’re interested in and we can propose an activity or event to match. The region has many beautiful beaches and coastal villages to visit. There are also many cultural and leisure sites for all ages and all tastes, including the new Cite du Vin. Activities for non-golfers include short wine classes and cookery classes, as well as easy guided and self-guided bike rides. We have some ideas here to inspire you.
Q Do I have to be a wine-connoisseur to visit a wine-producing château ?
With over 6,000 châteaux in the region, we are sure we can find one to suit your tastebuds and your level of knowledge. We can put together private visits with mini wine courses for beginers or organise a private visit with wine-producers. More and more châteaux are opened to the public. As locals, we have little secrets to get you into almost anywhere that takes your fancy!
Q Should I bring my own clubs or hire them?
You can bring your own or we can arrange hire for you locally for a surcharge – it’s up to you. All our golf courses provide a range of top-quality clubs for hire, in addition to full club shops. If you choose to bring your own, we have a shipping partner that can send your clubs ahead for you so they are waiting for you when you arrive. This can avoid the hassle of taking them on the plane.
Q Do I need a handicap?
Yes, ideally you should bring your handicap certificate. If you do not have a handicap, or if you’re coming with players who aren’t regular golfers, then just let us know in advance. That way, we can ensure the golf clubs on your itinerary accept players without certificates.
Q How many rounds will I get to play?
We can arrange for you to play as many rounds as you like on both easy and challenging courses. Just let us know your preferences and we will reserve tee times to match. We can also offer special packages for long-stayers. We can also tailor-make stays for groups, including corporate incentives around golf and wine, or golf competitions.
Q How many courses will I get to play?
Again, this is up to you. We have access to dozens of courses in south-west France. We have our favourites – such as Golf du Medoc and the five-star Saint-Emilion course – and we can arrange for you to play as many as time permits. Just let us know your preferences and we will reserve tee times for you.
Q I’m already coming to France and would like to play a round of golf. Do you offer one-day packages?
Yes, we can help book your tee times and even provide a ‘golf buddy’ service if you’re on your own and would like someone to play with. We can also make lunch reservations or arrange wine-tastings for after your round of golf. We offer similar packages for wedding parties and stag dos.
Q How do I get to Bordeaux?
Bordeaux is one of the most accessible cities in Europe – it’s never been easier to get here. It’s on all major airline routes, and also boasts a high-speed rail link to Paris (just 2 hours). Alternatively you could drive here, having taken a ferry into northern France or northern Spain. We have a full range of transport options here. We recommend you also look at Bergerac airport, which is only one-and-a-half hours from Bordeaux.
Q How do I get to Biarritz?
Biarritz has an international airport, and it is also linked to Bordeaux by train. Many golfers choose to fly into Bordeaux and out of Biarritz, or vice versa. We can include transfers between the two cities as part of your package. We have more information on Biarritz here. We also recommend you look at flights to Bilbao, which is just two hours from Biarritz.
Q Can we travel as a group ?
Whether you are a golf society, a group of golfers, members of a golf club or a company, Greens & Grapes is experienced in catering for your special needs. We can put together a tailor-made bespoke proposal for you and your group. Just drop us a line or call Lucius on 00 33 6 72 84 6660.
Q Can you assist us if we have mobility problems?
Yes. As locals, we know every single accommodation we recommend to you. That means we can tailor your accommodation to your needs, and it meets your requirements in terms of access, transport links and on-site assistance if you need it. We can also assist you with a golf buddy for the day if required.
Q Do you cater for people following special diets?
We are able to give you a personalised itinerary featuring restaurants that match your dietary needs. As part of our concierge service, we can book restaurants for you to ensure your restrictions are taken into account. We also have a range of our own fully-equipped apartments and we can assist you with personal food shopping during your stay. Many guests who are vegans or who have allergies prefer this option.
Q Can we be collected from the airport or train station?
Yes, we provide a full concierge service that includes airport or train station pickups and dropoffs.
Q Are you a registered travel agent?
Yes, we are fully registered with ATOUT France, the French tourist board. As a French travel agency, we subscribe at the APST financial guarantee fund, part of the European Guarantee Funds’ Association for Travel and Tourism. Greens & Grapes is also a member of IAGTO, the global golf tourism association. As with all travel agencies, we recommend you take out your own travel insurance to cover circumstances beyond your control.
Q How do I pay and do I need to provide a deposit?
You can pay online via bank transfer, or via Paypal. All payment options will be shown on your invoice. We will hold a provisional booking for you for seven days, during which time we ask you to pay a deposit to reserve your dates. You can find our full terms and conditions, including our cancellation policy, here.
